Dominic Thiem and Alexander Zverev: "Thanks for the friendship"

Dominic Thiem and Alexander Zverev delivered a tennis thriller in the final of the US Open. Then they swore their friendship.

The Austrian Dominic Thiem (27) prevailed against the German tennis star Alexander Zverev (23) in the final of the US Open. The sections of the two sports professionals were as emotional as the match on social media afterwards.

"This game really deserved more than a champion, and I'm sure you @ alexzverev123 will be lifting this trophy up in the air soon too. Thank you for being a great rival and even more for being a real friend the tour, "writes Thiem, currently third in the world rankings, on Instagram.

The defeated Zverev wept bitter tears after the US Open final in New York. On Instagram he showed himself to be a great sportsman and a good loser: "Congratulations to @domithiem on an incredible game. A great game – and hopefully many more to come."

Alexander Zverev had to admit defeat to Dominic Thiem after four hours: 6: 2, 6: 4, 4: 6, 3: 6, 6: 7 (6: 8).
