The impeachment proceedings against Donald Trump have cleared the next hurdle. The indictment has been filed with the US Senate.

In the second impeachment proceedings against the former US President (2017-2021) Donald Trump (74), things are moving forward. As planned, the indictment was transferred from the House of Representatives to the Senate on Monday. There, the document with the single charge of "incitement to riot" was read out, as can be seen in a video from "The Washington Post".

Trump is accused of "inciting a riot" for his speech, which he gave on January 6th immediately before the Capitol was stormed by a violent mob of his supporters. Five people were killed. The impeachment against the predecessor of US President Joe Biden (78) should begin in the second week of February.

At the end of the impeachment process, Trump could be given a lifelong ban on office at the federal level. This would put a stop to a new presidency. Trump is the first US president in history to have two impeachment proceedings initiated; the first was about the so-called Ukraine affair.
