It has been custom for several years that each device equipped with a screen receives a port of Doom. It ranges from the screen of a refrigerator, to the Touch Bar of a MacBook, to the Game & Watch Super Mario Bros. Still fun, the practice is no longer really surprising. And rather than porting Doom to yet another unexpected machine, one player chose to make the famous FPS playable with a device that was absolutely not made for it originally.
A player with infinite patience had fun making Doom playable using a rotary phone. The thing works and has been immortalized in a video circulating on social media. On the latter, it is indeed possible to see a player directing his character using an old telephone.

As the video shows, Doom’s playability on the rotary phone is far from optimal. Getting around takes a lot of time. For the record, 1 corresponds to the ctrl key. The numbers 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 correspond to left, right, up, down and space respectively.
It remains to be seen whether the creator of this mod will be motivated enough to go through the entire game like this. And while playing like this is never going to be easy, there are certainly ways to optimize it. By allowing for example to advance automatically until a new command is entered.

Unfortunately for the curious, the process followed to achieve this result has not yet been clarified. We therefore do not know for the moment how this masochist player went about it. Nor why he wanted to play Doom using a rotary phone. Finally, it remains to be hoped that the author of this creation will speak in more detail about it soon.
