By Franck Delage

Wednesday, December 29, a walker discovered a skull in a small cavity in a cliff, above a busy spring, along a municipal road in Carsac-Aillac

“We don’t know where it came from. It’s a toothless human skull. The lower jaw has disappeared, ”says Patrick Bonnefon, the mayor of Carsac-Aillac (Dordogne). It was walkers who alerted the town hall on Wednesday, December 29 in the afternoon, seeing this skull placed in a small cavity in the cliff overlooking this municipal road, the Malevergne road, between the two departmental connecting Sarlat to Gourdon and Souillac, in the Lot.

Very busy spring

This human remains, clearly visible from the road, was enthroned about ten meters above a source very frequented by the people of the region who get their supplies there, at a place called Roc-du-Poutou, which we can translate from Occitan by “rock of the kiss”. It must have been placed there recently.

The gendarmerie, alerted by the town hall, came to recover the skull and an investigation entrusted to the Sarlat Research Brigade was opened by the Bergerac prosecutor’s office to determine its origin. Analyzes will be carried out to assess the age of this bone.
