An administrative error made Jean-Claude Laprie’s life a nightmare. Wrongly declared dead last March, this resident of Piégut-Pluviers, in the Dordogne, is no longer entitled to his retirement pension, nor to social security coverage.
It was Jean-Claude Laprie’s wife who discovered the pot of roses. While doing her accounts, the latter told France 3 that she had noticed that her husband’s retirement pension had not been paid. A few days later, she noticed that her husband’s vital card had been deactivated.
By contacting her bank, Madame Laprie then learned that the agency had received “a request for confirmation of death” from her husband. For Jean-Claude, the principal concerned, this announcement had the effect of a “tsunami”.
The trail of a namesake
Faced with this grotesque situation, Jean-Claude’s wife decided to investigate to find out the truth. After remembering that her husband had had his identity papers stolen, she set off on the trail of a possible namesake who could have died recently.
The research proved conclusive. Indeed, another Jean-Claude Laprie died on March 2 near Bazas, in Gironde.
Faced with this error, the woman had a life certificate drawn up and sent it by registered mail to the pension and occupational health insurance fund (Carsat), the CPAM and to the supplementary pension.
For its part, Carsat confirmed “an error” and undertook to regularize Jean-Claude’s file.
The height of the story: if Jean-Claude was declared dead for several administrations, he nevertheless received his voter card for the presidential election.
