Nothing is set in stone yet, but producer Greg Berlanti (You, Dead Boy Detectives) and the screenwriters of Cowboy BebopJosh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg, are working on a live-action series adapted from the cartoon Scooby-Doo from Hanna-Barbera Studios.

Netflix has already put an option on the project and has committed to ordering the series for its platform if it likes the scenario. Details around this new version of Scooby-Doo are kept secret, but Deadline reports that it would be a drama series in a 50-minute format.

If this new show does indeed see the light of day, it will not be the first time that Scooby, Sammy, Fred, Daphne and Vera will be the subject of a live-action adaptation. This was already the case in 2002 and 2004 with the films by Raja Gosnell (written by James Gunn), and with Freddie Prinze Jr., Sarah Michelle Gellar, Matthew Lillard and Linda Cardellini in the cast.

Scooby-Doo has continued to be appreciated by the public since its creation in 1969. Numerous cartoons and other animated films have seen the light of day over the years, and this universe even recently gave birth to a spin-off centered on Vera and intended for an adult audience, broadcast on the Max streaming platform.

Note that the animated film Scooby! from 2020 is available on Netflix, as is the 2010 animated series, Scooby-Doo: Related Mysteries.
