Lara Gut-Behrami had not contested a downhill run since the beginning of December due to a corona disease. On her comeback in Zauchensee, Austria, the woman from Ticino really hits the spot. After impressing in training, the 30-year-old also showed a strong drive in the race and took the lead with the number 9 car.
None of the following drivers should be able to oust Gut-Behrami from the leader’s throne. For the 30-year-old from Ticino it is the 34th victory of her career, putting her in 9th place in the all-time best list in the World Cup. It is also her 12th victory in a downhill. The German Kira Weidle and Ramona Siebenhofer from Austria secured the other podium places. With Corinne Suter (7th) and Jasmin Flury (9th), two other Swiss women placed in the top 10.
Kolly drives fantastically in 14th place
Season dominator Sofia Goggia caused a shock moment. The Italian, who won all three downhill runs this season, fell on the way to setting a new personal best. Lucky for the Olympic favorite – she was able to cross the finish line on her own after a short break. The same applies to the Austrian Michaela Heider, who also suffered a spectacular fall. Even the helicopter had to come to her, but luckily it wasn’t needed.
Noémie Kolly then caused a sensation. The young Swiss raced into the top 20 with start number 38. Thanks to a sensational ride, she finished 14th. For Kolly it is the 3rd World Cup result in the top 20 in her career. (law/nih)
