Drama in the Aude. A 17-year-old teenager and a young adult in his twenties, from Toulouse, drowned this Saturday off the beaches of Narbonne (Aude). A third person who was with them was rescued and is in “relative emergency”, the firefighters of Aude told AFP.
They were about 150 m from the beach and could not be saved in time despite the presence of a pair of lifeguards.
An investigation into the circumstances of the drowning has been opened, Narbonne prosecutor Eric Camous told AFP, stressing that forensic doctors were to examine the bodies on Monday.
Warning from the prefecture
Friday, the prefecture of Aude had warned against a phenomenon of “strong swell” on the coast. “Dangerous swimming, strong swell expected on the Aude coast,” she wrote on Twitter.
