Driving at 180 km/h in a VW, an 18-year-old rammed a police car during a chase

In heavy rain and poor visibility, an 18-year-old driver drove down the federal highway at up to 180 km/h while fleeing from the police in the Salzkammergut. The fact that no accident occurred was only thanks to the attentive drivers in oncoming traffic. In the end, the teenager also rammed a police car.

The wild chase began with an anonymous call to the police reporting a suspected drunk driver on the Salzkammergut federal highway on Friday evening. So a patrol set out and was able to spot the suspicious vehicle, a VW Bora, a short time later. There was an 18-year-old driver from Bad Ischl in it. But when he tried to stop him, he stepped on the accelerator. Risky overtaking maneuvers The young driver sped off towards Bad Goisern, in heavy rain and poor visibility he accelerated to up to 180 km/h. He repeatedly attempted risky overtaking maneuvers – luckily attentive drivers in oncoming traffic prevented the catastrophe. Meanwhile, the following police officers called for reinforcements and other officers set up a roadblock in the Bad Goisern area. But even in the municipal area, the 18-year-old continued to pursue an undeterred chase, thundering through the streets at up to 150 km/h. Police car rammed. Only after traffic forced him to brake was a police patrol able to sit in front of the vehicle and hit the 18-year-old bring it to a stop. While trying to escape from the hopeless situation, the young driver ended up ramming the patrol car, from which the officers were able to escape in time. Fortunately, no one was injured. The handcuffs clicked on the spot for the 18-year-old. Why the driver sped away remains unclear. Because the alcohol test remained below the 0.5 per mille limit.
