On Friday afternoon (local time) there was a large-scale police operation due to the unannounced action of two streamers in New York.
The reason was thousands of fans of the streamer Kai Cenat, who blocked traffic on Union Square and threw objects.
Thousands of people flooded Union Square in the middle of Manhattan on Friday afternoon (local time). Reason: an action by the YouTube and Twitch stars Kai Cenat and Fanum. The live streamers known in the gaming scene had previously promised their fans that they would distribute gifts such as game consoles and computers on Union Square.
When the action did not start as planned, many people began to stop traffic and throw objects. The police reacted to the action, which was not reported in accordance with the rules and got out of control, with a large-scale operation. Around 65 people were arrested. It was not immediately known whether there were injuries. Kai Cenat was led out of the crowd and questioned, New York police said.
The NYPD is commenting on the incident
Mayor Eric Adams then thanked the police for bringing the situation under control quickly. “I want our streets to be full of life and joy. But they have to be safe,” he said.
