In a blog post published on tuesday august 29, Google has announced the marketing of its personal assistant Duet, now available within its Workspace office suite (which includes Gmail, Google Sheets, Google Slides and Google Meet). Google specifies at World that, initially, this tool will only be accessible to English-speaking users – other languages will be added later. According to the American media CNBCthis service will be charged 30 dollars (28 euros) per month in the United States for large companies – the price for smaller companies and other countries of the world remains to be specified.
This assistant is powered by an artificial intelligence similar to that of ChatGPT. According to Google, he will be able to write emails or paragraphs of documents, independently, on the basis of short instructions formulated in writing. By addressing him in a chat window, he can be asked to synthesize a text or to summarize all the exchanges of a chain of e-mails. Duet will also be able to produce images based on text instructions, the company announced in June.
According to Google, Duet will also be able to proofread texts produced by humans, to propose corrections for a more concise writing, to avoid repetitions, or to modify the tonality of a text – more formal or more active for example. The office automation AI will also be able to attend videoconferences and translate participants’ exchanges into subtitles, in 18 languages. After which he will be able to summarize the content of the exchanges for the absentees.
These functions are very similar to those of Copilot, the assistant that Microsoft is working to integrate into its Office office suite in the near future, to a similar price.
