Dune: Funcom surrounds the Abstraction studio for its survival game

Made to be the successor to Conan Exiles, this still untitled Dune project seems to be taken very seriously by Funcom, which is multiplying the partners. Specializing in co-development since its inception in 2007 in the municipality of Valkenswaard, Abstraction offers support on Unreal engine optimization as well as a variety of other technological and gameplay aspects.

While much of the Abstraction team is focused on engine work to optimize performance, several members have integrated other existing teams working on the project within Funcom to help develop major features of the game. Other specific aspects of working on Dune include artificial intelligence, audio, animation and physics“, details the press release.

If the game has no release window yet, Abstraction can add Dune to its resume which already includes names like Halo: The Master Chief Collection, Mass Effect Legendary Edition, Frostpunk, Baldur’s Gate 3, Ark: Survival Evolved, Hotline Miami or The King of Fighters 14, whether for co-development or porting missions. The studio, which plans to double its workforce (80 people) within a year, is also in the process of preparing a new license for its creation.

It is a pleasure to work with Abstraction on much of the core technology for our upcoming open-world multiplayer game based on the Dune IP. Their vast technical knowledge and experience is proving invaluable in enabling us to push the boundaries of what we can do with Unreal.“, comments Fred Richardson, technical director of Funcom.
