“Dune: Part Two” is confirmed. The sequel should be shown in cinemas in 2023. So it’s worth waiting for the sequel …

The sequel to Denis Villeneuves (54) novel adaptation “Dune” is confirmed. “Dune: Part Two” should be shown in cinemas from October 2023, such as the industry magazine “The Hollywood Reporter” reported. Villeneuve is pleased in a statement that he has just received the message that he can shoot the second part. It was his dream to adapt Frank Herbert’s (1920-1986) “Dune”.

In addition to director Villeneuve, Timothée Chalamet (25) will also be there again. In part one, in addition to the young actor star, Rebecca Ferguson (38), Zendaya (25), Oscar Isaac (42), Jason Momoa (42) and Josh Brolin (53) play in the film. Fans should already look forward to seeing more screen time for Chalamet and Zendaya in part two. But the sequel will also deliver new stars …

That’s what part one is about

Humanity is in the 11th millennium and has spread across several planets. For years the warlike Harkonnen exploited the barren desert planet Arrakis to get to the mighty Spice. The drug can not only expand the mind and extend life, but is the basis for intergalactic travel. In short: whoever controls the spice controls the galaxy. The victims of this power struggle are the residents of Arrakis, called Fremen, who tirelessly rebel against their oppressors and sabotage the mining of Spice.

All the more surprising, the Harkonnen suddenly pull away from Arrakis. Instead, the emperor appointed the house of Atreides, led by Duke Leto (Oscar Isaac), to be the ruling family of the desert planet. Willing to win the trust of the Fremen and to live in harmony with the locals, Leto travels to the desert planet with his partner Lady Jessica (Rebecca Ferguson) and their son Paul (Timothée Chalamet). They quickly realize, however, that neither the Fremen nor the hostile environment, not even the hundreds of meters long sandworms, pose the greatest danger …

Warning, spoilers!

Zendaya’s character Chani had very few scenes in the first part of “Dune”. She belongs to the Fremen who only come to the fore in the second part of the film. The first film ends with Paul Atreides and his mother Lady Jessica joining the Fremen after the destruction of their home on the desert planet. The sequel will probably show how Paul lives there – and learns, among other things, to ride sandworms …

Paul also sees his mother in his visionary dreams. Lady Jessica is pregnant again. But not only the birth of their second child awaits them. Jessica belongs to the Bene Gesserit, her role in the mighty order could be illuminated more. So hopefully there will be a lot to see from Rebecca Ferguson in the second part.

New main characters for part two?

Stellan Skarsgard (70) alias Baron Wladimir Harkonnen and Dave Bautista (52, as Glossu Rabban) play the villains in “Dune”. Another member of the Harkonnen could join in part two: Feyd-Rautha, another nephew of the baron. According to the will of the baron, the charismatic young man should secure the future of the house. In the sequel, this figure could become the great adversary of Paul Atreides. Rumor has it that “Eternals” star Barry Keoghan (29) is in discussion for the role, as “Entertainment Weekly” writes. In David Lynch’s (75) film version of “Dune” from 1984, Sting (70) was seen as Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen.

The emperor Shaddam IV has also not yet appeared personally. On his instructions, Duke Leto Atreides and his family come to Arrakis – a trap for the house of Atreides. According to speculation, one of the emperor’s daughters, Princess Irulan, could also get a bigger appearance – as a counterpart to Zendaya’s character Chani?
