Syria now has more than 3,000 dead due to the earthquake that occurred near the border with Turkey on the night of February 6. White Helmets and other civilian rescuers scramble to find as many survivors as possible. Under the rubble, a newborn baby girl was found and taken to the nearest hospital.

The particularly deadly earthquake that struck Turkey and Syria on the night of February 6 to 7 still causes terror in the international community. Every day, new images of victims rescued from the rubble are posted on social media, showing the extent of the damage caused by the natural disaster. In Syria, where the human losses are a little less significant than in Turkey, there are still just over 3,160 dead.

However, even in the midst of chaos, miracles can sometimes occur, like this newborn found by the White Helmets, under the ruins in Syria. In Jandairis, very close to the border with Turkey, the baby was found by rescuers while he was still connected to his mother by the umbilical cord. The latter had already died, like the rest of the family of the little survivor.

The baby lost his whole family

A relative of the family, Khalil Sawadi, told AFP about the rescue of the baby, in which he participated: “We heard a noise while we were digging (…) we cleared and found this little one, God be praised”. Immediately, the girl was taken to a health center in Afrin, where she was examined and placed in an incubator. His little body was covered with scratches and bruises but his condition is now stable, to the great relief of the caregivers, who confirmed this to AFP.

The little girl does not yet have a first name but some call her “the miracle of Jandairis”.
