ISTANBUL (Reuters) – Turkey’s Disaster and Emergency Management Agency (AFAD) said on Saturday the death toll from this week’s earthquakes in southeastern Turkey had risen to 20,665.

Nearly 93,000 people have been evacuated from areas devastated by the earthquakes on Monday and more than 166,000 rescuers are hard at work at the scene of the disaster, said AFAD.

Some 1,891 aftershocks have been recorded since the first 7.8 magnitude quake struck early Monday morning, the agency added.

In the north of neighboring Syria, also affected by the earthquakes, the death toll exceeded 3,500 on Friday.
