Eastern Europeans and Baltics distrust the Germans

Even after the “turning point” proclaimed by Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz, the partners in the Baltic States remain skeptical as to whether they can rely on German foreign and defense policy. They demand more German leadership – including military leadership.

At the Berlin Foreign Policy Forum, German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock reaffirmed her support for the countries on NATO’s eastern flank. People still don’t fully trust Berlin there.
