Before you eat, do you take photos of your meal and share them on social networks? According to a study, that could make you fat in the long run!

For most of them it is completely normal these days: If you sit in a restaurant and have a delicious meal, you pull out your cell phone and take a photo of it and then share the picture on social networks. Studies even suggest that we like the meal better after the photo. But now this little hobby of many people is getting a damper: According to a new one study From researchers at Georgia Southern University in the USA, photos taken before you eat could be responsible for unwanted weight gain. Accordingly, a photo before the meal ensures that we are more likely to want to look up something.

More desire for a lookup

For the study, 145 students were given plates with cheese crackers from the researchers. The participants received six crackers in each group and twelve in each group. The group with the six crackers should also take a photo of the meal before consuming it. The surprising result: Those who take photos then rated the enjoyment and the desire for a lookup higher.

The brain is seduced

But why does a photo make us want to eat more? “Memories of food and the recording of consumption can influence how much we eat,” the study authors write. Photography influences the way our brain perceives food and makes us want to eat more. The assumption is consistent with existing studies, according to which the brain focuses more on the taste and smell of a food after photographing a food.

The results of the study could be of particular interest to people who want to lose weight and are therefore increasingly relying on small portions. To be on the safe side, these people should rather avoid taking photos of their food.
