Victim of death threats and homophobic insults, Eddy de Pretto finally sees the fruit of his complaint. Indeed, 17 people were arrested as part of an investigation by the Central Office for Combating Crimes Against Humanity and Hate Crimes

The facts took place on June 17, 2021. Eddy de Pretto found his audience after a year and a half of absence, due to the pandemic. Invited to sing as part of the festival “Who Goes Piano”the young singer begins to perform “What’s the point”, in the Saint-Eustache church in the 1st arrondissement of Paris. In this song, the interpreter then evokes his difficulties in reconciling religion with his homosexuality. A service that the public will love in the church. But everything changes when he publishes a video of his interpretation on social networks.

Indeed, Eddy de Pretto has the very bad surprise to discover that the reactions under his video posted on Instagram and Twitter are very negative. Many Internet users comment on his publication with homophobic insults. In total, the young man receives no less than 3,000 violent messages tinged with death threats.. For the singer it is too much, he files a complaint. An investigation is then opened by the National Center for the Fight against Online Hate. Eight months have passed and investigators have made good progress. Indeed, according to information from Parisianthe gendarmes of the Central Office for the fight against crimes against humanity and hate crimes have arrested no less than 17 people over the past three days.

Individuals summoned and taken into custody

They are therefore suspected of having insulted and threatened Eddy de Pretto. Still according to our colleagues, the people arrested are all adults and live everywhere in France. “Of the 17 arrested, 15 are summoned to the criminal court hearing on October 3 and 4, 2022 to be tried on the counts of online harassment with ITT for more than eight days and online harassment with ITT for more than eight days committed because of the sexual orientation of the victim”, can we read in the article of the Parisian. Some would still be in custody.
