CAIRO/JERUSALEM (Reuters) – A missile launched as part of fighting between Hamas militants and Israel struck an Egyptian resort about 220 km from the Gaza Strip early on Friday, Egyptian media Al Qahera News reported , citing sources.

The missile hit a hospital in Taba, injuring at least six people, Al Qahera TV reported. A witness who was in Taba said he heard an explosion and saw smoke and dust rising into the air. Reuters was not immediately able to identify the origin of the explosion.

Taba is a popular Red Sea resort, located some 220 kilometers from Gaza. The city faces the Israeli port of Eilat.

The Israeli military said it was aware that a security incident had occurred outside Israel’s borders.

Hamas said on Wednesday it had fired a missile towards Eilat. The Israeli army said the missile had landed on the outskirts of the port.

No one has claimed responsibility for Friday’s explosion.

Al Qahera said the missile hit an ambulance service and a residential building used by the Taba hospital administration.
