We claim: The Tuscan island of Elba is as beautiful as Mallorca, but of course a little different. Beautifully different. Why we love them especially now in June.

Ah, Elba! You’re beautiful, but you’re often overlooked. Why actually? Could it be because there are almost no direct flights from Germany and you can only get to you on the deck of a beautiful old ferry? Or that mainland Tuscany has so much to offer that you quickly get tired of vacation and don’t even look at you across the sea?

In any case, we love Elba, especially now in the mild June, when the onslaught of sun-seeking Italians and Italy-loving sun worshipers from Northern and Central Europe is still a long time coming.

For everyone who is looking for an alternative to Mallorca. Like its famous Spanish sister Mallorca, the Tuscan island of Elba is one thing above all: beautiful! If you drive around by car, you will find enticing bays for swimming, the villages and accommodations are mostly well-kept and tasteful and you can also hike on Elba with sea views. And the rush is limited.

• Why now?

It begins on Elba bathing season End of May. Hiking, strolling, sitting outside and cycling are now also very good with pleasant temperatures above 20 degrees.

• Okay, how do I get there?

Although Elba has a small airport, it is served almost exclusively by Italian cities. The easiest way is to take the ferry: It takes about an hour from the Tuscan town of Piombino to the island of Elba. Car ferries run almost every hour; If you want to get on the ship with a vehicle, you should make a reservation (return ticket without a car approx. 58 euros/person, mobylines.de).

• Where do I put my feet up?

Hotel Ilio. From the boutique hotel on the slope of the charming seaside resort of Capo Sant’Andrea it is only three minutes in flip-flops to the water. You start the day with a delicious breakfast on the relaxed terrace overlooking the sea and end it there sunbathed with a drink in hand. DR/F from 80 euros (Capo Sant’Andrea, hotelilio.com).
