Electric car: Belib’ is revising its pricing policy upwards

Due to the general increase in the cost of electricity, the Parisian charging network Belib’ is adapting its tariffs and planning a new tariff policy. Unfortunately, and unlike Tesla which recently lowered the price of kWh on its Superchargers, users of Belib’ terminals will see the amount of their bill increase for a recharge.

Different formulas according to needs

To recharge the batteries of owners of electric cars and two-wheelers, Belib’ offers different formulas. Users can thus opt for Moto, Flex, Boost and Boost+ charging, delivering respective charging powers of 3.7 kW, 7 kW, 22 kW and 50 kW.

In addition to this, Belib’ offers three formulas that vary the cost of charging. The subscriber-resident tariff is intended exclusively for inhabitants of the capital who have subscribed to a paid subscription. This is the most advantageous offer. The subscription for non-residents sees charging rates increase, while the “visitor” rate is the most expensive, for those who have not subscribed to the Belib’ subscription, which costs €7/year.

From 2023, Belib’ adds a component based on the kWh of electricity consumed. It will therefore be necessary to pay the price of the time spent and the amount of the charge. The rate applied for Flex terminals (7 kW) is adjusted and unified for all boroughs. In the same way, the hourly price is no longer progressive according to the duration of parking.

Still, Belib’ only offers hourly pricing for the most powerful terminals of 22 kW and 50 kW.

If you do not have a Belib’ subscription, you are therefore subject to visitor pricing. The Moto (3.7 kW) and Flex (7 kW) terminals display pricing based on kWh and parking time. The Boost and Boost+ options only display hourly pricing.

As a Parisian resident, you are eligible for this specific subscription at €7 per year. This formula also allows you to benefit from advantageous pricing during off-peak hours (from 11 p.m. to 8 a.m.) and night pricing during peak hours (from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m.).

For users who live outside the capital, it is still possible to subscribe to a subscription offering a preferential rate compared to the “visitor” formula. On the other hand, it is a single pricing regardless of the time of day or night.

For its part, the European charging network Ionity recently switched to pricing per kWh according to the power of the terminal used. Without subscription, the 50 kW terminal offers an advantageous rate of €0.39/kWh.

In urban areas, TotalEnergies is gradually switching to fairer kWh billing. The 50 kW recharge is more expensive beyond 45 min, but the rates are established at €0.50/kWhthen €0.70/kWh Where €0.30/min then €0.40/min.

The energy company Sigeif also has its own terminals in the Paris region and uses hourly billing. Once again, the rate varies according to the power of the charging station used, ranging from €2.4/h for an 8 kW terminal and up to 18 €/h for a 40-60 kW terminal (i.e. €0.30/min).

With this new pricing policy, Belib’ is struggling to be competitive with other charging players. Still, the Parisian network benefits from a strong presence in the capital, where very fast charging networks are pushed out of the ring road.
