Electricity restored in Kherson, says Ukrainian Presidency

KYIV, Nov 26 (Reuters) – Electricity has been restored to Kherson, southern Ukraine, following its liberation from months of Russian occupation, a Ukrainian presidential official said on Saturday.

“First we supply electricity to the city’s essential infrastructure and immediately afterwards to individuals,” Kirilo Tymoshenko, deputy chief of staff to President Volodimir Zelensky, wrote on Telegram messaging.

Electricity, heating and running water were cut off in Kherson when Ukrainian forces retook the city on 11 November.

The Russian army seized Kherson soon after its invasion of Ukraine began on February 24, and this city was the only regional capital it had managed to control.

Since its retreat, the Russian army nevertheless continues to bombard Kherson from the opposite bank of the Dnieper River, according to the Ukrainian authorities.

The Kherson local administration official said on Friday that 15 people had been killed and 35 others injured in the past six days.
