Britney Spears sings the duet “Hold Me Closer” with Elton John. According to the singer, she was “a lot scared” before her comeback.

The duet by Britney Spears (40) and Sir Elton John (75) has finally been released. It’s the first time the pop singer has starred in a song in six years – and with one of the greatest icons of all time. The dance anthem “Hold Me Closer” is based on the hit “Tiny Dancer” from 1971, refined with disco beats and synthesizers.

What is noticeable when listening: Britney Spears sings in a lower register – she apparently left her baby voice in her 20s and 30s. She is always supported vocally by Elton John in the song. Apparently she has to approach her comeback again. Critics would say it drowns her voice a bit – one might argue it’s just a proper duet. Nevertheless, her voice is full of power.

Elton John ‘held hands’ with Britney Spears

The impression of the approach is not entirely wrong. Because Elton John betrays in an interview with the “Guardian”that the singer was “a lot scared” before her comeback. The release of the song in particular was apparently a sticking point: “We had to get her to approve what she did,” explains John. “She’s been gone for so long, so there was a lot of anxiety because she’d been cheated on so many times and she’d been out of the public eye for so long. We held her hand throughout the process and reassured her that everything would be fine becomes.”

Britney Spears is said to be rebuilding her self-confidence with ‘Hold Me Closer’

The 75-year-old was “excited” to release the duet with Spears. “If it’s a big hit, and I think it will be, it’s going to give her so much more confidence than she already has, and she’s going to realize that people really love her, care about her and want her that she’s happy,” he says. “It’s everything anyone in their right mind would want after going through such a traumatic time.” Britney Spears was under guardianship for 13 years. This was only ended in November 2021.

Elton John also talks about his own life story: “I’ve experienced this feeling of breakdown myself and it’s terrible. Thankfully I’ve been sober for 32 years and I’ve never been happier than I am now.” John now has the experience he needs to advise and help people, “because I don’t want to see artists in a dark corner.” Britney Spears was also “broken”, it was “difficult when you’re young”. However, musicians should “enjoy what they are doing and feel that they are worth something,” emphasizes Elton John.
