Here’s why the ‘Game of Thrones’ icon made him ‘nervous’

Ben Mendelsohn and Emilia Clarke open up about their complicated father-daughter relationship on Marvel’s Secret Invasion.
From June 21, fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe on Disney+ will get supplies again: The new series “Secret Invasion” deals with the history of the so-called Skrulls on Earth. Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson, 74) and the Skrull General Talos (Ben Mendelsohn, 54) fight against a group led by Gravik (Kingsley Ben-Adir, 37), who wants to provoke a third world war. Talos’ daughter G’iah (Emilia Clarke, 36) supports Gravik in his plans and her father tries desperately to dissuade her.
Mendelsohn and Clarke also go into this complicated father-daughter relationship in an interview with the news agency spot on news. But they also talk about a welcome premiere, difficulties in filming and the right strategy in the face of an alien invasion.
Emilia Clarke has reached the “top of the tree”.
It’s the Marvel Universe premiere for ‘Game of Thrones’ star Emilia Clarke, and she’s not holding back her excitement about it. “It feels great to be a part of this world. Everything about it,” says Clarke. “I’ve reached the top of the tree.” She is now with “the cool kids, the living legends,” enthuses the actress. That is great luck.
And in fact, in addition to Mendelsohn, Clarke can also look forward to well-known co-stars such as “Pulp Fiction” legend Samuel L. Jackson, Oscar winner Olivia Colman (49) or “Avengers” star Don Cheadle (58).
“Game of Thrones” icon had problems with her Skrull mask
The green mask that Clarke had to wear as a member of the Skrulls in the series, on the other hand, triggers less happiness in her. “I didn’t like her very much, I’ll be honest,” admits the Brit with a laugh. “I can get quite claustrophobic and that has concerned me,” explains the 36-year-old. But she also wore the prop after a “long day”. “Maybe that’s why I didn’t have the best impression of it,” Clarke admits.
In “Secret Invasion”, the Skrulls can assume human features, but actually have a green face with pointed ears. You can switch back and forth between them as you like.

On the show, the father-daughter relationship between Talos and G’iah is very cold. Clarke’s character doesn’t really want to have anything to do with her dad anymore and treats him accordingly grimly. The mimin herself is very impressed by Mendelsohn: “If I had been allowed to choose a parent, I would have chosen this guy for sure,” she says, putting an arm around her co-star. “Ben is my favorite person I’ve ever had the pleasure of acting with. I’m so lucky to work with this true sunshine and he’s also my dad,” said the actress.
Mendelsohn, on the other hand, admits that he admires Emilia Clarke very much and has “watched ‘Game of Thrones’ cover to cover four times”. “As a huge fan, I was a bit nervous,” explains the 54-year-old. But that didn’t have an impact on the acting performance: “I think we did it very well,” says Mendelsohn with conviction.
“The King” star shares personal experiences as a father
Ben Mendelsohn has a daughter himself, but he only feels a partial connection to his character Talos: “That’s something different,” he says. But the actor is also constantly thinking about how he can be a better father: “Absolutely! I don’t think there is a parent who doesn’t have that,” emphasizes Mendelsohn. “It wouldn’t be healthy not to have that either. You always want to do something better and actually do it all the time,” explains the Australian.
Clarke and Mendelsohn’s plan for an alien invasion
When asked what she would do in the event of a real alien invasion, Emilia Clarke actually referred to her father: He always explained to her: “‘When the apocalypse comes, get up somewhere!'” That was actually her “first thought ” said Clarke. “I would travel to Germany, find the highest mountain and climb it,” she jokes. She would also “get canned food” and try to befriend the aliens.
Ben Mendelsohn likes this plan. For him it would be more like Switzerland: “We fly directly to the Eiger,” explains the 54-year-old, referring to the almost 4,000 meter high mountain in the Alpine region.
