Michel Barnier was the guest of Europe 1 this Sunday morning. At the microphone of Jean-Pierre Elkabbach, the former European Commissioner criticized Emmanuel Macron’s strategy concerning EDF. For him, the President of the Republic is “playing” with the company and “dismantling” it.

INTERVIEW

Michel Barnier totally disagrees with Emmanuel Macron’s strategy regarding EDF. Guest of Jean-Pierre Elkabbach’s “Political interview” this Sunday morning on Europe 1, the former candidate for the Les Républicains congress and former European commissioner estimated that the President of the Republic was “playing with EDF”.

An electoral measure

“It’s extremely serious,” he said. As a reminder, the government is forcing EDF to sell a larger volume of cheap electricity to its competitors in order to limit the rise in tariffs next month. This measure will cut 8 billion euros from the profits of the French electrician. “In the urgency of the election, it is extremely serious that we say that we are going to puncture 8 billion from EDF”, judge Michel Barnier.

“The State must take its responsibilities”

The former European commissioner thus denounces an electoral measure. “We play with the wallet and the money of the French,” he continues. “The State must take its responsibilities”. The solution found by the executive, that of increasing by 20% the volume of electricity sold at a reduced price to their competitors to contain the increase in consumer bills, is unanimously contested by the employees and the management of EDF.

On the side of the Ministry of Economy and Finance and the executive, EDF’s losses are estimated at 3 billion euros, instead of the 8 billion announced by the company.
