New emojis are in the starting blocks! The troubles of the corona pandemic will soon also be better expressed.
Even in the midst of the corona pandemic, the Unicode consortium is working on new emojis. Now the working group, consisting of employees from large tech companies such as Google, Apple and Microsoft, has presented its first drafts for new symbols. In the coming year, 217 new emojis are expected to be added – most of them for reasons of diversity. For example, there should be even more skin colors and different constellations of partnerships.
Two of the new emojis could also explicitly reflect the agony that the world population has to endure in the difficult year 2020 due to the corona pandemic. The "Face with Spiral Eyes" emoji, that is, a face with two spirals as eyes, could help depict a feeling of powerlessness and dizziness. The "Face Exhaling" emoji, a face that is visibly difficult to exhale, is intended to visualize the feeling of exhaustion or a sigh of disappointment.
