Engie launches a major hydrogen and fuel production project in Dunkirk

PARIS (Agefi-Dow Jones)–Engie and Infinium, a company specializing in synthetic fuels, have entered into a partnership to develop a fuel production unit in Dunkirk for air and maritime transport.

This “e-fuel” will be produced using Infinium’s exclusive technology, which combines renewable energy and carbon dioxide (CO2) to produce a synthetic fuel.

Engie, as global integrator of the project, plans to build a 400 megawatt electrolyser to produce green hydrogen on site. The CO2 will be captured at the ArcelorMittal steelworks in Dunkirk, the two groups said in a press release.

The project represents an investment of more than 500 million euros and will be financially supported by the public authorities. The final investment decision is expected by the end of 2023 for a commercial start in 2026.
