Engie: will invest in an electrolysis project in Australia – 09/16/2022 at 10:15

(CercleFinance.com) – Engie will make an investment for the development of one of the first renewable hydrogen projects located in the Pilbara region of Western Australia.

The first phase of the Yuri project, which should be completed in 2024, will produce up to 640 tonnes of renewable hydrogen per year. It will serve as zero carbon supply stock for Yara Australia’s ammonia production site in Karratha.

Once in operation, it will be one of the largest electrolyses powered by renewable energy in the world.

Engie has reached an agreement with Mitsui which allows Mitsui to acquire 28% of the shares of the Yuri project joint venture. Engie and Mitsui intend to exploit the Yuri project through this joint venture.

‘Thanks to the support of the Australian authorities, we are paving the way for the development of the global hydrogen market,’ said Sébastien Arbola, Deputy Managing Director of Engie, in charge of Thermal Production and Hydrogen Supply and Energy.
