In an interview with the newspaper l’Opinion, the Republican presidential candidate Eric Ciotti, said he was “totally opposed” to a pact with the government. An announcement that follows Nicolas Sarkozy’s remarks this weekend, calling on Emmanuel Macron to turn to the right “in a more frank way”, and to conclude “a political agreement”.
Eric Ciotti, candidate for the presidency of the Republicans, said Monday “totally opposed” to a pact with the government, unlike Nicolas Sarkozy who urged Emmanuel Macron to make a “political agreement” with LR. “I am of course totally opposed to an agreement with the government”, decided the deputy of the Alpes-Maritimes in an interview with Opinion. “We do not ally with a power that will have damaged France so much”.
“Irresponsible” attitude of the government
On Sunday, former President Nicolas Sarkozy urged Emmanuel Macron in an interview to turn to the right “more frankly”, and to conclude a “political agreement” to compensate for his lack of an absolute majority in the National Assembly. The putative candidate for the head of the party has also ruled out the hypothesis of a “union of the rights” with the RN which “would only lead to our disappearance”.
The same day in the JDD, Eric Ciotti co-signed, with 53 of the 62 deputies of the LR group in the Assembly, a platform explaining that they would not vote for the motions of censure of the Nupes and the RN on the budget debated Monday in the Assembly so as not to trigger a “political and institutional crisis”, despite an “extremely disappointing” budget and an “irresponsible” attitude by the government.
“Limit the damage committed by the current government”
They also called on the government to “hear” the opposition and reaffirmed their “opposition to the decisions taken by the executive”. “In the Assembly, we can only limit the damage committed by the current government”, still advances Eric Ciotti on Monday, who identifies Emmanuel Macron as the first opponent of his party.
“It is to him that we owe the advanced deterioration of the situation in our country”, criticizes the deputy, speaking of a “deplorable” record. “Faced with this power which is coming to an end, Les Républicains must embody a responsible, serious, credible alternation. We cannot let the French have to make a worrying choice between Jean-Luc Mélenchon and Marine Le Pen”.
