Despite the corona pandemic, the Eurovision Song Contest will take place with a live audience. 3,500 spectators can be there.

The Eurovision Song Contest 2021 is to take place in Rotterdam with an audience. The participation of 3,500 spectators on site in the Ahoy Arena is permitted in the three live shows as well as in six public rehearsals. Fans from abroad are also allowed to come. The Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science has now confirmed that as reported by “eurovision.de”.

Germans would have to set off early enough, because according to the Foreign Office, a quarantine period of ten days applies after entry. There is also a test requirement for air travelers and a health form must be filled out. On the return journey, there is also a test and quarantine obligation. Details can be given to fans read on the website of the Federal Foreign Office.

This is how the event works for the fans

Fans who want to enter the event hall must therefore also submit a negative corona test here – and they should be tested again five days after participating. Protective masks should be worn on site as long as a spectator is not at his seat. There is therefore no provision for maintaining a minimum distance of 1.5 meters. People with previous illnesses, people over 70 and people who belong to the risk group should not be able to participate.

According to the current status, the candidates from 38 of the 39 participating countries should also appear live on site. Tickets should only be available to those fans who already had tickets for the ESC, which was canceled last year. On May 5th, the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) wants to send corresponding e-mails to eligible fans and sales should then start on May 8th.

The current plans are not a guarantee that the ESC can actually be held in this way, says Executive Producer Sietse Bakker. He pointed out that the government could change its decision depending on the current situation. The first semi-final will take place on May 18th, the second semi-final will follow on May 20th and the grand final will take place on May 22nd.
