The ESC 2021 will rise in five months. Now delegation leader Alexandra Wolfslast spoke about the German contribution in a podcast on the NDR.

There are still a good five months until the grand finale of the Eurovision Song Contest takes place on May 22, 2021 in the Netherlands. Shortly before the end of the year, the German contribution is already certain, as delegation leader Alexandra Wolfslast revealed in the current episode of the NDR Blue podcast "ESC Update". However, she did not want to reveal which artist will start for Germany in Rotterdam and have the chance to succeed Duncan Laurence (26, "Arcade") as the ESC winner.

"You can really be happy"

"Great songs and artists" of high quality were among the participants in the selection process, recapitulated the long-time NDR2 journalist. There were also experienced musicians among them. Regarding the act that won the race in the end and will go to Rotterdam for Germany next May, she simply said: "You can really look forward to it." For organizational reasons, however, he or she cannot yet be made public.

The selection process itself has not changed compared to last year, as Wolfslast revealed in the "ESC Update". As in 2020, two separate juries decided on the German contribution – one consisting of 20 music experts and one from a total of 100 fans. First, both selection committees rated the artists, then the songs in the second step. The selection was "condensed" in several rounds until the final participant was determined.

The head of the delegation could not say the exact number of music titles submitted, but: "I think there were over 300 songs in total." Furthermore, "at least 70 or 80" were created in so-called songwriting camps.

Ben Dolic decided not to participate again

Wolfslast does not yet know exactly how the Eurovision Song Contest will take place in 2021. This year the European music competition was canceled due to the corona pandemic. Singer Ben Dolic (23), who was supposed to compete for Germany with the song "Violent Thing", decided not to participate in the preselection again in November.
