Escape helper from ex-autoboss jailed

His son Peter (28) has to be behind bars for a year and eight months. The two had pleaded guilty. Helping a criminal in Japan can be punished with up to three years. The defense had demanded suspended sentences for the two men.

Ghosn, former CEO of the Franco-Japanese car alliance Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi, was arrested and charged on November 19, 2018 in Tokyo, among other things, for violating stock market requirements. In April 2019, he was released from custody on bail under strict conditions. In December, Ghosn left his home in Tokyo and took the bullet train to Osaka. In a hotel there he hid in a large box intended for audio equipment. Holes were drilled into it to allow breathing. The box was not x-rayed at the airport.
