(Boursier.com) — EssilorLuxottica confirms that the French Competition Authority published a decision concerning Essilor International on November 8. In connection with a procedure initiated in 2014, a fine of 81 million euros was pronounced against Essilor International, including 15 ME jointly with its parent company EssilorLuxottica, for discrimination against the ‘pure-players’ of the online sales and protection of physical distributors, regarding the marketing of certain specific prescription lenses.

EssilorLuxottica is “firmly convinced of the legality of its practices and the merits of marketing certain segments of corrective lenses under conditions that guarantee consumers the best visual correction necessary to meet their personal needs”.

The company also maintains that it operated “in strict compliance with the competitive and regulatory context of the relevant period, not only for the benefit of its customers and partners but also of the entire industry”.

Thus, EssilorLuxottica strongly contests the decision rendered by the Authority and will appeal. The company is “confident in its ability to prove that the Authority’s decision is unfounded”.
