Estelle Mouzin case: 19 years after her disappearance, the change of investigating judge which worries

It is a sad anniversary commemorated each year by a march. This Saturday, in Guermantes (Seine-et-Marne), a silent march is organized from 3:45 p.m. in tribute to Estelle Mouzin, who died 19 years ago. The start of 2022 marks a turning point in the case, with the departure of the investigating judge responsible for the investigation since 2019, Sabine Khéris, in post at the Paris judicial court since 2012.

However, the rule provided for by law requires not to occupy the same specialized functions for more than ten years. For a week, the one who was still auditioning in early December Monique Olivier, ex-wife of Michel Fourniret, who died last year, has given up her place. Leaving Estelle Mouzin’s father to fear “a new mess”.

In a letter addressed to the Minister of Justice Éric Dupond-Moretti, Éric Mouzin believes that the change of magistrate poses risks to the proper monitoring of the case. Sabine Khéris had “knew how to establish a link with the indicted person, Monique Olivier”, wrote the father of Estelle Mouzin, in a document consulted by France Info. He now fears a “loss of information in the processing of ongoing investigations”, and regret the “dismantling of a competent and efficient team” with the departure of Sabine Khéris.

Despite repeated searches, the body of Estelle Mouzin, who disappeared at the age of nine on the evening of January 9, 2003, when she was returning from school, has never been found. After long years of deadlock, Judge Sabine Khéris had succeeded in March 2020 in having the serial killer Michel Fourniret recognize his role in the death of the child. It was also to her that Monique Olivier had finally confessed, last April, to having accompanied her ex-husband on January 11, 2003 in Issancourt-et-Rumel (Ardennes) so that he bury the body.

At the end of the march in tribute to Estelle Mouzin, a press conference will be organized in the afternoon.
