EU Parliament passes Digital Markets Act

The EU Parliament approved the Digital Markets Act this week. If the European Council joins in now, the big online companies will face huge changes. For example, smartphone manufacturers should make it possible to use alternative app stores. Pre-installed apps should also be easy to remove.

The biggest changes are likely to hit the Messenger. According to the law, WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger and iMessage would have to open up to other apps in the future. For example, you should be able to send messages to WhatsApp users from Signal and Telegram. Whether the “small” messengers will use this feature is up to them.

The Netherlands are working on a loot box ban

Six parties in the Netherlands have joined a motion to ban loot boxes in the future. This follows the example of Belgium, where loot boxes have been classified as prohibited gambling for years.
