Arsenal 0-0 Villarreal (first leg 1-2)
Just like two weeks ago, hundreds of Arsenal fans gather in front of the Emirates Stadium before the second leg against Villarreal to demonstrate against club owner Stan Kroenke – and to cheer their team on before the most important game of the season. But even the loudest support does not help. Without the injured Granit Xhaka, the Gunners would not be able to score the one goal that, if the box had been clean, would have meant the Londoners’ participation in the final. The closest is Captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who hits the post twice. The victory of the Yellow Submarine will please one in particular: Unai Emery. The Villarreal coach knocked his former employer out of the competition with the 0-0 draw.
The Swiss: Granit Xhaka is actually on the grid, but injured while warming up before the game and is replaced by Kieran Tierney.
AS Roma 3-2 Manchester United (first leg 2-6)
To make up for the 2-6 package in Manchester, AS Roma would need a miracle to qualify for the Europa League final. The miracle does not come. The Romans actually have the chance to at least make United nervous. In front of the goal, Edin Dzeko and Co are missing the last consequence for a long time. You can’t say that about the guests: after 39 minutes, Edinson Cavani puts the guests in the lead with the usual callousness. With a double strike after 60 minutes, the Romans were once again hopeful, but Cavani’s second hit after 68 minutes nipped them in the bud. The fact that youngster Zaleski still scores 3-2 seven minutes before the end is a side note.
The goals: 39. Cavani 0: 1, Dzeko 57.1: 1, Cristante 60. 2: 1, 68. Cavani 2: 2, 83. Zaleski 3: 2.
