The Paris Stock Exchange ended Tuesday on a timid rebound (+0.19%) after an unstable session, the energy crisis in Europe and the approach of the meeting of the European Central Bank on Thursday imposing a certain restraint to investors.

The flagship index of the Paris market, the CAC 40, took 11.39 points to 6,104.61 points the day after a sharp decline of 1.20%.

“The energy crisis is creating back and forth in Europe. We feel that there are quite a few erratic movements knowing that there is not much visibility and that there will be risky events during the week. Saxo Bank analyst Andrea Tuéni told AFP.

The meeting of the European Central Bank will be at the heart of monetary news on Thursday. The Frankfurt institution should resolutely raise its rates, with analysts anticipating a probable increase of 75 basis points. Investors are hoping for a rapid decline in inflation without the eurozone economy tipping into recession.

After having suffered at the start of the week, the automobile sector has picked up with Renault, which gained 2.07% to 28.34 euros and Stellantis with +1.40% to 13 euros.

On the other hand, energy stocks, the only ones to have posted an increase in August, weighed negatively on the Parisian market: TotalEnergies fell by 2.76% to 51.71 euros and Engie by 0.88% to 12 .13 euros.
