We attended the last Parisian performance. In this huge room with perfect acoustics, Gaspard Proust proves that despite the breaks linked to the pandemic and a show that has been running for almost four years, it has neither changed nor lost its splendor. “The essence of this show is benevolence”, he dares in front of an audience conquered by this incredible audacity. As usual, everyone takes it for their rank – the artist has changed a good part of his texts to update them: Anne Hidalgo, this “Nadine Morano woke”, François Hollande, Olivier Véran, Éric Zemmour, Julie Gayet , “This Marilyn Monroe of the Biocoop”, the ecologists, the bobos, the bourgeois, the prolos, the fathers, the mothers, the single women, the couples, the children, the pensioners, the handicapped, the Jews, Muslims, Catholics, Asians, Modernists, Homos, Trans, Omar Sy, Élie Semoun, Dany Boon, Christine & the Queens, etc. We laugh, but we are almost stunned by his verbal projections machine-gunned like a Kalashnikov.

In a time when laughter is corseted, where each community has the right to laugh only at itself, where the new censors watch over the slightest slippage, seeing Gaspard Proust is an almost unreal parenthesis, a bubble of oxygen and a antidote to gloom which should be consumed without moderation. Take advantage of it before Proust, as he told us, devotes himself to other projects. He might not need the money anymore, but we’ll still need to laugh. However, we must accept that our dealer of humor and freedom takes off.
