It will perhaps be the most important new automobile revealed in 2024. The Renault 5 E-Tech electric will succeed the Zoé, but with a much more original style inspired by the iconic R5. Its design should be close to that of the Renault 5 Prototype concept revealed in 2021, as evidenced by the first teasers published by the French manufacturer.

The next electric Renault 5 will be a five-door city car measuring 3.92 m long. This is a little less than the 4.09 m of a Zoé, and overall around fifteen centimeters shorter than the average of versatile city cars (segment B). Renault will offer colorful body colors, such as yellow, blue and green. Finally, a display serving as a charge indicator will be placed on the hood.

What will be the range of the electric Renault 5?

The new Renault 5 E-Tech electric will launch a new platform, called AmpR Small (formerly CMF-B EV). Derived from the CMF-B platform which equips many thermal vehicles, it is intended only for electric models. The new Renault 5 will therefore not be able to offer a petrol or hybrid version.

However, it will be available in two battery levels, both with NMC chemistry. The most affordable version will be equipped with a 40 kWh pack, compared to 52 kWh for the high-end models, like the latest Zoé. Thus equipped, the future electric Renault 5 announces up to 400 km of WLTP autonomy. We do not yet know the range of the smaller battery, but we estimate it at a little over 300 km.

Note that Renault’s next electric city car may be equipped with a bidirectional charger in order to offer V2G technology (vehicle-to-grid), which allows energy to be resold to the electricity network.

The Renault 5 E-Tech electric will be a front-wheel drive vehicle and could have two power levels, 125 and 150 hp, according to The Argus.

What will be the technical sheet for the Alpine A290 sports version of the electric Renault 5?

For customers who would like more power, Renault will offer a sporty version of its new electric R5, or rather its Alpine subsidiary. Thus, the Dieppe brand will launch a supercharged version of the electric Renault 5 under the name Alpine A290. Its style will necessarily be sportier, like an Abarth 500e compared to the original Fiat model. Its technical sheet will also be reworked.

We know, for example, that customers will have the choice between two summer tires: Michelin Pilot Sport S5 “performance” tires or Michelin Pilot Sport EV “efficiency” tires. Michelin Pilot Alpine 5 will also be offered as winter tires. The brakes and suspensions will also be different from the Renault version, while the mass of the Alpine A290 will not exceed 1,500 kg.

We do not yet know the power of the first electric Alpine, which could be marketed in different versions, perhaps even with a second motor on its rear axle.

When will the new electric Renault 5 be released?

The production version of the Renault 5 E-Tech electric will be revealed on February 26, 2024 at the Geneva Motor Show. We will then have to wait until the fall for the delivery of the first copies, first with the larger 52 kWh battery. It is already possible to buy a queue-breaker called R5 R Pass and costing €150 in order to be among the first to receive your electric Renault 5.

We do not yet know the release date of the Alpine A290, but its presentation will take place after that of the Renault 5 E-Tech electric, probably around summer 2024.

What will the price of the future electric Renault 5 be?

Renault has confirmed that its new electric R5 will be sold from around €25,000. This price obviously concerns the entry-level version with its 40 kWh battery, which will compete in particular with the Citroën ë-C3 and its 320 km of autonomy (from €23,300). Like it, the Renault 5 E-Tech electric should benefit from the ecological bonus, because it is produced in Douai.

For a core model equipped with the 52 kWh battery, the bill should exceed €30,000 (excluding bonuses). The prices of the electric R5 will, however, remain lower than those of an equivalent Zoé, which starts from €35,100 excluding state aid. The Renault 5 E-Tech Electric should subsequently compete with the production version of the Volkswagen ID concept. 2all, also expected from €25,000 at entry level.
