A true phenomenon, the Haikyu manga continues to seduce! Carrying volleyball with panache in animation, he was recently entitled to a big screen adaptation, exclusively broadcast in Japan… But a surprise could well delight French fans.
Sports anime, there is something for everyone. We obviously think of football which, from Olive and Tom to Blue Lock, no longer counts its number of representatives. Basketball fans also have something to do, the same goes for martial arts or car racing. And when it comes to volleyball, Jeanne and Serge can go get dressed: it’s time to Haikyu ! Since 2012, the manga of Haruichi Furudate is among the strong titles of Weekly Shōnen Jump, the pre-publication magazine which launched, among others, One Piece and Dragon Ball. So it didn’t take long for Haikyu to get its anime adaptation.
Here again, success was quickly achieved. With a classic style, but punctuated with impactful visual ideas, volleyball has never been more alive in animation than thanks to Haikyu. So, unsurprisingly, the anime is trying its hand at a feature film, with TOHO Animation And GI production at the controls.
It’s going to be a hit in cinemas with Haikyu
Haikyu is the story of Shōyō Hinata, a college student who develops a passion for volleyball. A slight detail however: Hinata is small, which inevitably handicaps him in his game. However, the young boy is not discouraged, quite the contrary. He surpasses himself to compete with players with formidable relaxation. Twelve years after its debut on paper, the manga made its first cinematic debut last February. Released then exclusively in Japan, the film was a hit. To continue this momentum, he is preparing to tour theaters around the world.
It turns out that Crunchyroll, the French anime broadcaster, has good news for fans: the film HAIKYU!! The Dumpster Battle will make a stop in French cinemas, in VOSTFR and in VF.
