Exceptions to the rules – sports clubs are in a bind because of 2G

“Sport for all children must continue to be possible”, appealed Sport Austria President Hans Niessl at the end of last week. His appeal was heard in the government. Even though some critics consider the result to be disproportionate. But right from the start: With the new ordinance issued by the Minister of Health on Sunday, the 2G rule now also applies to sports facilities. They may therefore only be vaccinated or recovered.

This does not apply to all those top athletes who received an exemption for training during the pandemic, i.e. also young athletes taking part in competitions as well as their supervisors and trainers. For them, an overnight stay in a hotel that actually applies 2G is still possible with a negative test.

Club sport breathes a sigh of relief! Because there would have been a painful lack of unvaccinated coaching staff, who often do voluntary work in sport. Numerous sports courses would have been canceled.

So many people are active in a sports club in the federal capital. 38 percent of them use the sports offer several times a week.

On the other hand, quite a few parents fail to understand that unvaccinated people can continue to train their children. A dilemma in which some associations have already spoken a word of power. Albeit a spongy one at times. Such as the swimming association, which stipulates 2G for all athletes over 13 and all coaches to participate in competitions. However, when training at the edge of the pool, these can also be left unvaccinated.

But only if the bathroom allows them entry with a test. To do this, the applicable ordinance must penetrate to the hall operators. Which sometimes fails due to the efforts of the plain.
