Excess mortality – Corona: Over 1000 dead in Styrian homes

There are considerable differences between the districts: The sad leader is Murau, with an excess mortality rate of 152 per 1000 residents. The least likely of these were homes in the Voitsberg district (29 per 100 residents). The sober figures hardly allow any conclusions to be drawn about the causes. What is certain, however, is that there were more deaths in larger homes. Differences between publicly and privately run care facilities, however, could not be determined.

Tannenhof: Home doctor himself was out for days
The investigation report on the Tannenhof nursing home in Upper Styria was also presented today. 18 people died there in autumn 2020, most of the residents and staff were sick with Covid – the armed forces had to take over. What is certain for the expert commission is that “serious mistakes” have occurred. In the Tannenhof, for example, the doctor in charge was not on site for days – he was out himself. In order to avoid such horror scenarios in the future, the commission under Primary Erich Schaflinger recommends, among other things, to ensure medical care in times of crisis and to monitor it. The controls of the homes should generally be refined. In future, the regional district authorities should no longer be responsible for this, but the state.
