Mexico, Indonesia and Taiwan topped the 52 countries listed by the 2022 ranking of the InterNations expat network. Kuwait is at the very bottom of the scale.
Mexico comes first. According to the 2022 ranking of the InterNations* expat network, it is the best destination to move to this year. The quality and cost of living, the professional activity but also the ease of installation or the accommodation are factors taken into account in the establishment of this ranking, carried out among 12,000 people.
“91% of expats are satisfied with their life in Mexicosays InterNations. Mexico is in particular in first position on the parameter of “ease of installation» and in second place for «personal finance“. However, the issue of security in the country lowers its average since one out of five expatriates does not feel safe (compared to 9% on average in the rest of the countries).
On the second step of the podium is Indonesia, where expatriates enjoy earning a comfortable living there. Nearly two in three expats (64%) say their household disposable income is more than enough to live comfortably. Just behind, Taiwan stands out for its security and financial stability. The country also ranks first in the index ofquality of lifeincluding affordable and widely available health care.
At the other end of the ranking is Kuwait, notably being the lowest rated in terms of quality of life and ease of installation. More than one in two expats also believe that they cannot express their opinions openly (compared to 18% in the rest of the world).

In penultimate position is New Zealand, where expatriates encounter the most difficulties in terms of personal finances, with a negative evaluation of the general cost of living there and, consequently, of their financial situation. Transport costs that are too high are particularly pointed out. Hong Kong follows arriving at the 50th square. Indeed, the country comes in last place in terms of “security“, of “political stability” and of “ease of accommodation“. In addition, 68% of respondents there are not satisfied with the cost of living in general (compared to 35% worldwide).
*InterNations asked 11,970 expats representing 177 nationalities and living in 181 countries or territories to provide information on various aspects of expat life, as well as their gender, age and nationality. Participants were asked to rate up to 56 different aspects of life abroad on a scale of one to seven.
