From his youth he was considered violent. In 2018 he hit the headlines because he sent the Greens club boss Sigrid Maurer obscene messages. In April he shot his ex-partner. Albert L’s soul has now been examined. The opinion of the expert: “It is extremely dangerous.”
He is considered to be one of the most conspicuous prisoners of the Vienna-Josefstadt prison. Frequently relieves himself on the floor of his cell, takes off his clothes, has screaming fits, demolishes furnishings; claims that they are trying to poison him. Insults fellow inmates and guards in the most insolent way. And threatens her – like a judge recently – with killing and rape.
The act was like an execution
Albert L., the “Bierwirt” who made headlines in 2018; because of obscene messages that he had sent to Sigrid Maurer, the Greens’ club chairwoman, via social media. Albert L., the 42-year-old who, on April 29, literally executed Marija M. (35), the mother of his two children, in her apartment in Vienna-Brigittenau with two pistol shots. After the nurse finally managed to leave the violent man.
Friends and relatives of the two report that “Auszucker” from him was the order of the day; actually since they became a couple in 2006. And the woman was more and more afraid of Albert L.; the more drugs, the more psychotropic drugs, the more alcohol he consumed.
He was a “ticking time bomb”
A few weeks before the drama, according to the victim’s family, “the situation with him has finally escalated”; Albert L. had fired on Marija M’s father in the course of a dispute. The many attacks on the 35-year-old; the constant announcement that if they separated, he would kill her, her parents, and her two brothers; ultimately the attempted murder of her beloved papa – none of these acts were reported.
Why not? “Because we were afraid of Ali. Because we were afraid that he would go to jail for a few months at most – and that after his release he would kill all of us. “Postscript:” Because we knew: He was a ticking time bomb. “
“I had drunk a lot of alcohol before the crime”
Psychiatrist Siegfried Schranz, who has extensively examined the 42-year-old over the past few months, has now come to the same conclusion. What did Albert L. say about his crime in front of the expert? That he had “unfortunately” consumed large amounts of schnapps, beer and various medications beforehand – and therefore had no memory of what happened.
Yes, Albert L. habitually “got drunk” on the morning of April 29th – as a friend who had been with him until the early afternoon confirmed to the police.
But the actions he took afterwards seem well-considered: he had a gun with him when he stormed into his ex’s apartment; he made sure that his daughter (13) was in the stairwell and his son (3) was brought to safety by a neighbor – while he was doing his terrible work.
“I just killed someone”
And it seems as if he consciously got completely drunk only afterwards – only to later be considered insane by the judiciary. In any case, his actions speak in favor of it: he blackmailed the acquaintance whom he had coerced into looking after his children, two bottles of hard liquor; undressed, sat on a park bench, drank the alcohol in huge gulps. And shortly before the police arrived, he told passers-by: “I have just killed someone.”
The horrific end to a criminal career that began in his youth: he was only 17 when he drafted his first conviction. And more followed. Because of receiving stolen goods, suppressing documents, theft, dangerous threats, coercion, drug offenses, bodily harm.
In front of psychiatrist Siegfried Schranz, he explained his “botched existence” tearfully to the fact that he came from a desolate background and grew up in a home “where I was mistreated”. He began early on to “treat my psychological wounds with cocaine”; whereby he was unable to learn a trade. He only kept himself afloat with odd jobs “until about three years ago I took over a beer pub that went badly after the thing with Sigi Maurer”.
“I deserve the coup de grace”
He seems to have little sympathy for his victim: “Marija hit me often,” he lies. Then to complain again: “I deserve the coup de grace for what I did to her and with it to myself.”
The forensic psychiatrist’s diagnosis: “Mr. L. has a combined personality disorder with emotionally unstable, impulsive, dependent and antisocial components.” To recognize doing. In addition, the expert argues that further, similarly serious crimes are to be expected from the man; it is therefore considered to be “extremely dangerous”.
The 42-year-old is threatened with the worst punishment that can be imposed in Austria: for life plus admission to an institution for mentally abnormal lawbreakers. The trial against him is planned for the beginning of next year.
