Totally off the mark or absolutely indispensable?

Eye tapes should give our eyes a lifting effect for eyes à la Bella Hadid. What do we think of the trend? Our editors Jessica and Friederike will tell you.

There are beauty trends that are more for professional use, but that doesn't mean we don't try them anyway. For example eye tapes. Never heard? Then we'll help you get started.

Eye tapes are used to visually lift the eye area. This gives the eyes the kind of cat-eye effect we know from model Bella Hadid. This look is often achieved through plastic interventions, but the eye tapes should enable the same result. As the name suggests, the tapes are stuck to the temples and pulled back with an elastic band. The band is again pinned in the hair. What do we think of that? We'll tell you.

In love with eye tapes

Admittedly, the eye tape trend already looks totally exhausting when you watch it. But I think the look you can achieve with it is simply terrific. Sure, it's not something I would wear every day – but for a special occasion, I would definitely try it out. I love the cat eye look. Especially if the corners of the eyes tend to run downwards, this simple trick could change a lot.

Important to know: The tapes have to be applied to dry, even disinfected skin so that they stick really well. Press it against the skin for about a minute. The best way to hide the tapes is to keep your hair open. Then they are hardly noticeable, especially since you apply your make-up on them anyway. So if you feel like doing make-up experiments (like me), you will definitely HAVE to try these tapes!

Eye tapes? Literally for the cat!

If adhesive strips are used in a beauty photo shoot, that can in most cases not be a good thing. Whether it's supposed to be rolls of fat, breasts or, as in this case, the eye area – simply masking a body region or using tape to put it in the right place is a step too far in my opinion. Apart from the fact that we use it to create completely unrealistic beauty ideals, the art of the make-up artist and the magic of make-up are also lost. With the help of an eyeliner and the play of light and shadow, a beautiful and, above all, natural cat-eye effect can be created without stripes.

My tip: If cat eyes with the help of an eyeliner are not enough, you should try the fox eye look instead of the adhesive strips. Here, too, an eyeliner is drawn as precisely as possible. The only difference: In the end, it is not swung, but pulled a little more straight towards the temples. This has the effect of making the eyes look symmetrical and almond-shaped.
