Complexion makeup trends to adopt in 2024

For Julie Common, the matte complexion is ancient history and ours will appear deliberately luminous and radiant during the year 2024. A complexion makeup trend that the makeup artist finds easy to adopt at any age and “suitable for all skin types” thanks to the effective skincare routines that we now benefit from and which allow us to obtain luminous and healthy skin while “using as little material as possible”. The watchword to follow when choosing your foundation in 2024? Seek “fluid textures that reveal the texture of the skin”. The expert also detects micro-trends intrinsic to this general trend, which play on the appearance of the radiance given to the skin or its intensity, by listing us among the biases of 2024 on the complexion side:

• glowy complexion : a perfectly even complexion whose radiance suggests a good skincare routine, sometimes enhanced with a few touches of highlighter to reflect the light even better. “We just add a touch of concealer to the hollows of the dark circles and a liquid blush on top of the cheekbones in a color adapted to your skin tone and that’s it: a healthy complexion” specifies the expert.
• pearly skin : a bolder version of the glowy complexion, which reveals an iridescent and slightly colored although discreet glow. To be reproduced with lightly colored highlighters that are applied all over the face before applying foundation.
• the “natural second skin” effect : who prefers a light made-up complexion “all transparent with a luminous and fresh satin finish”. As Julie Common explains, all you need to do is “work lightly with a brush and fluid, satiny products on previously prepared and well-hydrated skin with a suitable skin care routine”.

• the glass skin : an ultra-luminous complexion that leverages the shimmering effect offered by skin care products to reveal all the luminosity of the skin with this “glass skin” variant. As preparation, “we can take inspiration from Korean routines in several steps” which will maximize the radiance of the skin, advises the makeup artist.

Eye makeup trends to wear in 2024

Makeup trends will be much more contrasting in terms of eyes, warns the Make Up For Ever expert. The makeup artist distinguishes a major trend reserved more for winter 2024, and another which will emerge more for spring. The first offers very strong eye makeup and “bold looks requiring a good mastery of techniques” and who will be “certainly less accessible in terms of production” as the other trend expected for spring. The expert also explains that eyebrows are always at the heart of all attention, made up in detail according to very precise recommendations.

• the smoky smoky eye : surfing on the soft grunge and soft goth trends that we know well from the year 2023, smoky eyes will be more trendy than ever in 2024. However, they will rather be worn in a smoky and extremely degraded version. The makeup artist predicts, in fact, smoky eyes with very blurred shades. “We will use dark shades that we will blend with brushes for a perfect blend. You can add a liner where you let your creativity express”.
• natural eyebrows : as the makeup artist explains, the eyebrow, essential to the structure of the eyes, needs to be worked “lightly by filling in gaps with a pencil, pomade or blush” to enhance their natural shape and optimize it. To draw them, “we can create a hair by hair for a very natural look” when you have thin or sparse eyebrows in order to fill in the gaps. “These techniques correspond to all types of eyebrows because they must be adapted to the morphology of the face and the eye”, she specifies. The makeup artist’s tip for applying makeup correctly: “We will use the infallible triangle method for a perfect and suitable line: Simply draw an imaginary line which connects the base of your nostril, the inner corner of the eye and the head of the eyebrow, another from the nostril to the outer corner of the eye: and we fill in the gaps”. To place the arc, you can start from the corner of the lips and align yourself with the center of the pupil while looking straight ahead, imagining an imaginary line in the same way.
• apricot-colored eyeshadow : this color well “fresher” will be at the center of eye makeup trends for spring, explains the makeup artist. She recommends it in “monochrome shadow to be applied flat over the entire eyelid for a fresh effect, which can be combined with blush for a healthy glow”. To sufficiently emphasize the look with this soft color, “we will add a beige pencil to illuminate the eyes and a touch of mascara to deepen it” specifies the Make Up For Ever makeup artist.

• bushy eyebrows : for those who have generously natural eyebrows, the volume and thickness of the hairs is also an asset. They look natural or even downright bushy. “We ban marked and contoured eyebrows with concealer, which weigh down the look and are not flattering” and we instead add “an eyebrow fixing gel to lift the look by styling them upwards” to play with their natural texture.

Lip makeup trends to adopt in 2024

Also torn between the key colors of winter and the fresher and more delicate colors of spring, lip beauty treatments look to be in complete contrast according to the make-up coach of the Make Up For Ever brand.

• dark mouth : dark lips are the great classics of winter and they will be ultra trendy for the start of 2024. Burgundy, dark red or purple lipstick, they come in multiple ways. The makeup artist recommends taking the time to work on yours “with a lip contour pencil for an elegant and sophisticated result”, by clearly defining the contour of the mouth. To wear them easily, Julie Common explains that dark mouths “are sufficient in themselves and can be worn with a pretty worked complexion, a healthy glow and a touch of mascara”. For those who have thin lips, the expert emphasizes that the best thing is to opt for “shiny and glossy textures to add more volume” on the lips.

• apricot mouth : apricot color is a big trend in eye makeup, but it can also be worn on the lips and is ideal for those who don’t dare to wear this bold eye color. With a brown lip contour, apricot lipstick looks great. For the makeup artist, it is, in fact, lip makeup “to work by blurring it for a natural effect or with a contour pencil a darker shade in gradient for a 90’s look”. Don’t hesitate, either, to add shine to the lips for an ultra fresh look.
• the “bitten effect” mouth: easier to wear than the dark lip, this colored lip focuses everything on the way of applying makeup to the lips and not really on the color itself. The aim being to make up the lips in a gradient, creating a make-up that “we blur the edges for a grunge result”.
