Facebook drops Live Shopping and focuses on Reels

The Meta group has chosen to end a program launched recently on Facebook. Indeed, the ability to broadcast live video for the purpose of selling products will simply disappear in a few weeks.

In order to stand out from the competition, social networks have long sought to diversify their services. These initiatives are not always successful and it is Facebook’s Live Shopping function that will pay the price. On his blog, Meta formalized the withdrawal of this element. The ambition was to allow creators, but also brands to market their products more easily… It obviously didn’t work.

Everything for the Reels

Two years after its deployment, Facebook Live Shopping will stop on the 1er October 2022. It will then no longer be possible for merchants to sell their goods via their page and to accept payments by Messenger. Instead, Meta seems to be encouraging sellers to go through ads in the form of Reels. Because it is the latter who are at the heart of the new strategy of the American firm.

Indeed, these short videos are the success of many platforms and Facebook intends to put the package at this level. This also makes it possible to reach a younger audience and therefore more easily influenced. Note, however, that the product tag will still work on Instagram.
