Ihe rise in fuel prices should change the plans of many French people for the next vacation. According to the results of a study carried out by Holiday Villages (VVF) and relayed by RTL, more than half of French people (52%) would consider changing their holiday plans for this spring or this summer because of the costs associated with gasoline.
According to this survey, 39% of future holidaymakers intend to go less far to cope with the consequent increase in prices at the pump. In addition, 7% of respondents plan to use a less expensive means of transport such as train, bus or carpooling, and 6% will postpone their departure until things calm down. A very small minority, around 2%, even consider going so far as to cancel their holidays.
The French prefer local holidays
Unsurprisingly, and as has already been the case since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, the cities of France will be more popular with the French than a departure abroad. A direct consequence of the current climate with in particular the war in Ukraine and the epidemic of Covid-19. 75% of people surveyed said they intended to stay in France for their next vacation.
