Family condemned – “We’re not Nazis – that was stupid joke!”

A desired number plate with Nazi code, Nazi glorification in the family chat and a birthday party for Adolf Hitler brought a family from Flachgau to court on Thursday. She was accused of being re-engaged in National Socialism and incitement to hatred – all four defendants were given suspended sentences.

A desired number plate with Nazi code, glorification of the terror regime in the family chat and a birthday party for Adolf Hitler with a swastika decoration, “Führerwein” and a “Heil Hitler” cake. A Flachgau family brought all of this to the Salzburg regional court on Thursday. The two sons and their uncles were repentant and full of confession. The tenor: “We are not Nazis, that was stupid joke.”

Only the mother denied the reproach. She was accused by the prosecutor of having replied with three thumb emojis to messages such as “Today State Holiday, Sieg Heil”. One of the accused, a former FPÖ local politician, also had to answer for hate speech. The defendants were legally sentenced to 12, 14, 18 and 21 months of conditional imprisonment.
