In Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1, Jamie Campbell Bower played young Grindelwald and Toby Regbo played Albus Dumbledore at around the same age. In particular, they could be seen together very briefly in a photo album found at Bathilda Tourdesac’s house, and young Grindelwald had a very short additional scene of wand theft.
And when the film Fantastic Beasts 2which recounts the rise to power of adult Grindelwald (Johnny Depp) needed a similar scene, it was only natural that they turned to the same two actors to reprise their roles at a little more length.

Toby Regbo became one of the actors of the series Reign: The Destiny of a Queen, before playing in The Last Kingdom, The Medici: Masters of Florence or the famous prequel never broadcast of Game of Thrones alongside Naomi Watts . He has just filmed the series Belgravia: The Next Chapter with Benjamin Wainwright and Harriet Slater.
As for Jamie Campbell Bower, he interrupted his career between 2013 and 2017 after the release of The Mortal Instruments: City of Darkness, but he returned to service for Fantastic Beasts, before appearing in season 4 of Stranger Things in the role of Peter Ballard aka Henry Creel aka Vecna, the big bad of the Netflix series.
